Happy Halloween!
The students got to wrap each other like mummies today. They had one minute to wrap their partner like a mummy and if the toilet paper ripped they had to start over. They quickly learned they couldn't pull too hard or go too fast. We did this a couple times so students could be the mummy and the wrapper. Thank you to those of you who supplied toilet paper, snacks, drinks, paper plates, and napkins for our celebration today. We had a fun day!

Mystery Reader!
This morning the students had a special surprise--a mystery reader! Aaron's grandpa, Mr. Jerry Kiel, shared three clues about himself that I shared with the class before he entered the room. The students guessed who was waiting in the hall to read to them. With the last clue, "My grandkids call me G-pa." Aaron guessed that it was his grandpa. Mr. Kiel read a story that he wrote himself and the message of the story was that friends are the best gift of all. The students loved it.

Applesauce Fun!
Today we had a "hands on" writing activity to introduce HOW TO stories! HOW TO stories are a type of informational writing. Examples could be....How to make a sandwich, How to draw a bat, How to make cookies, etc. Our HOW TO writing today was "HOW TO MAKE APPLESAUCE!" First, we read aloud the story Applesauce Season. Then, we made applesauce in our classroom! (hmmm, smelled sooo good:-) Next, we wrote down the steps of how we made it as part of our writing lesson. Finally, TOMORROW morning we will enjoy our homemade applesauce when we get to school! Here are a few pix to share....(Somehow I missed Sabrina and Jared in the pictures:-( I will catch them in the morning when they TASTE our applesauce! But they were a part of our fun!!!)

Math Class Fun!
Today the students learned a new math game called The Number Quilt Game. They cut out their red addition cards and then found the answers and placed them on their gameboard in the correct box of the quilt. It was a fun way to practice their addition skills!
Thank you!

We really enjoyed getting to talk with you and your students at conferences last week. You are the most important people in your children's lives and we appreciate all you do for them to help them be successful in the classroom.

All About Pumpkin Writing & Painting
Today we read two non-fiction stories to learn more about pumpkins! We then filled in a graphic organizer to help "organize" all our thoughts!! Our writing assignment was to "INFORM" others about what we learned/know about pumpkins. We then followed up our writing with a fun, little painting project:-) Check it out at conferences this week! (If you haven't filled in a time yet for conferences, please do so asap! See you on Wednesday or Thursday!)

Raz-Kids reading
Every day we have four centers the students rotate through after morning recess. At one of the centers students use iPads to do Raz-Kids. Students are able to listen to and read books at their levels, and then take quizzes on them. If you'd like to access Raz-Kids at home go to www.raz-kids.com. Click on the green "Kids login" box. Type in the teacher username: nkeifenheim. Click on your name to get in.
